Mr. Ogungbemi Oguntula, a retired Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has passed away. He died on Sunday, May 11, at the age of 69—just days before his 70th birthday.
According to family sources, Oguntula fell ill suddenly and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he passed despite efforts by medical personnel

Born in 1955, Oguntula was a veteran journalist and administrator who devoted more than 30 years to the nation’s premier news agency. He joined NAN in 1983 and steadily rose through the ranks, eventually serving as Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS) before retiring in 2016.
Colleagues remembered him as a diligent and humble professional, known for his dedication to mentoring younger journalists both within and outside the agency.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Olusola Oguntula, two children, and grandchildren, who are grieving his unexpected passing.
Tributes have continued to pour in from friends and former colleagues, while the family noted that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
