Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has raised fresh hope over the possible release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. Speaking recently during a press interaction, Otti revealed that he has been in active engagement with President Bola Tinubu concerning Kanu’s situation.
According to the governor, the President is “favourably disposed” to the idea of Kanu’s release, and discussions so far have been promising.
“I can assure you that I am engaging with Mr. President. He is favourably disposed to it, and I am sure that in no distant future, Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom,” Otti stated.
“As his Governor, I’m at the forefront of efforts to ensure he comes back home.”
Otti also emphasized that the matter is being handled with caution, noting that many of the assurances and engagements are not for public consumption. He affirmed that Southeast governors are united in pushing for Kanu’s release through ongoing dialogue with relevant federal authorities.
This development has sparked renewed discussion across the Southeast region and among IPOB supporters, with many hopeful that a political resolution may soon bring an end to Kanu’s long-running detention.
