The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped victim following a late night operation at Umuege Village in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the rescue was carried out by officers attached to the Central Police Station, Awka. The operatives responded swiftly to a distress call at around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.
Ikenga said the officers pursued the kidnappers and, through tactical positioning and a brief exchange of gunfire, were able to overpower the assailants and rescue the victim unharmed.
He said, “The Anambra State Police Command today, April 23, confirmed the rescue and safe return of a kidnapped victim at Umuege Village, Amawbia, Awka, and has debriefed the victim for necessary action. This followed a hot chase and strategic positioning by police operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, after receiving information about the abduction of the victim at 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday.”
The police also noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
