Two former Super Eagles legends have come forward with shocking revelations about deep-rooted corruption within the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), sending shockwaves through the football community both at home and abroad.
In an emotional and candid interview aired over the weekend, the ex-internationalsโwhose names are being withheld for legal reasonsโshared disturbing accounts of manipulation, favoritism, and financial misconduct that have plagued Nigerian football for years. According to them, their efforts to reform the system were met with resistance, threats, and ultimately, exclusion from the football establishment.
One of the legends described how players were routinely selected based on bribes and personal connections rather than merit, calling it a betrayal of the national dream. “We had talent across the country, but only those who could pay their way made it. We lost generations of stars to corruption,” he said.
The other revealed how funds meant for player welfare, grassroots development, and training camps were routinely siphoned off, leaving teams poorly equipped and underprepared. “We wore the green and white with pride, but behind the scenes, we were fighting a system built on greed,” he added.
These revelations come amid growing calls for a full-scale audit of the NFF and wider reform of Nigerian football governance. The NFF has yet to issue an official response, but pressure is mounting from fans, former players, and civil society groups demanding transparency and accountability.
For many Nigerians, this is more than a scandalโit’s a painful reminder of how corruption has robbed the country of its full footballing potential.
