The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a solemn reminder for the younger generation to begin preparing for leadership rooted in integrity and vision.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Chairman and CEO of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Usman, said the nation is mourning not only Buhari’s passing, but also that of renowned industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who also died recently.
“This is coming at a time when the nation is also grieving the loss of the great industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata,” Usman stated. “It is a profound reminder to us all of our own imminent passage at the appointed time.”
He emphasized that the deaths of these two towering national figures serve as a wake-up call to the youth to begin cultivating the qualities necessary for responsible and visionary leadership.
“It is also a reminder to the younger generation of the need to brace themselves for future leadership anchored on integrity, honesty, foresight and a positive vision for the future of Nigeria,” he said.
Usman praised both men for their enduring contributions to the country, noting that they exemplified values that aspiring leaders should emulate.
“Former President Buhari commanded respect and loyalty, becoming a rallying point for the masses due to his proven personal honesty, integrity, and discipline,” Usman said.

He also highlighted the legacy of Alhaji Dantata, who transformed his inherited business into a major force for economic and social development, using his wealth to support charitable causes and uplift communities.
“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was known for his business acumen and generosity. He expanded his family’s business empire and made significant contributions to Nigeria’s development through philanthropy and community service.”
Usman noted that the nation has lost two iconic figures whose achievements and sacrifices will remain etched in the country’s collective memory.
“Their departure at the same period is a great loss to the nation, but one that ushers in important lessons for emerging generational leaders — to uphold values that promote national unity, peace, and development,” he said.
He concluded with prayers for the deceased: “May Allah forgive their shortcomings, grant them Jannatul Firdaus, and strengthen their families and the entire nation during this period of loss.”
