An Area Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a bus conductor, Aminu Tijjani, to three months’ imprisonment for stealing a pair of shoes.
The presiding judge, Mrs. Shawomi Bokkos, delivered the sentence after Tijjani pleaded guilty to theft. However, the judge gave him the option to pay a fine of N20,000 instead of serving jail time.
In addition, Tijjani was ordered to pay N20,000 in compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, police prosecutor Inspector Daniel Damulak informed the court that the case was reported at the ‘C’ Division Police Station on April 2 by Mr. Muktar Tasiu.
According to the prosecutor, Tijjani unlawfully entered Tasiu’s property and stole a pair of shoes valued at N15,000. Tijjani later confessed to the crime during police investigations.
