Sunday, 23rd February 2025, was a day of jubilation for the faithful of St. Anthony’s Parish, Okpo, Ekwulobia, in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, as His Eminence, Peter Ebere Cardinal Okpaleke, made his maiden pastoral visit to the parish as the Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese.
Delivering his homily, Cardinal Okpaleke emphasized God’s love for humanity and urged the faithful to love one another unconditionally, as God loves them. He stated, “Love your enemies as you love yourself; imitate God, be like Him, and relate with others as God relates with you.”
He further encouraged the congregation to emulate the biblical King David, who, despite having the opportunity to harm his adversary Saul, chose to spare him out of reverence for God and recognition of Saul’s anointing.
The Prelate urged the faithful to embrace God wholeheartedly, seek His presence in their daily lives, and cultivate a spirit of generosity, assuring them that God rewards every individual according to their deeds. He commended them for their dedication and contributions to both the parish and the diocese.
Dignitaries at the event included Hon. Tony Muobike, Member representing Aguata II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, and Nze Azubuike Ezechukwu, President General of Ekwulobia Town.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, a reception was held in honor of the Cardinal, featuring a variety of cultural performances that added vibrancy to the occasion.
