Nanka, February 9, 2025 – The Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, His Eminence Peter Ebere Cardinal Okpaleke, has called on the faithful to be open to God’s guidance, just as Peter demonstrated in the Gospel reading of the day. He made this appeal during his pastoral visit to St. Michael’s Parish, Nanka, as part of the parish’s silver jubilee celebration.
Reflecting on Luke 5:5—“If you say so, I will let down my net”—the Cardinal emphasized Peter’s trust in Christ, despite not fully understanding His instructions. He urged Christians to adopt the same attitude of faith, obedience, and total submission to God’s will.
“A true Christian must be willing to listen, obey, and remain open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and the Church,” he stated. He highlighted the benefits of this openness, noting that those who seek God’s guidance recognize their own frailties, gain deeper insight into Christ, and learn to accept others despite their weaknesses.
As part of his visit, Cardinal Okpaleke confirmed 153 candidates in the faith, encouraging them to nurture their spiritual lives, remain steadfast in their trust in God, and draw strength from the Holy Spirit.
To mark the silver jubilee celebration, a memorial tree was planted within the parish premises.
During the reception, outstanding individuals and groups were recognized for their performances in the recently concluded Holy Childhood Association (HCA) and Block Rosary competitions at the deanery level. The event concluded with the cutting of the anniversary cake, rounding off a joyous celebration of faith and community.
