Chadian defense forces reported the death of 96 Boko Haram militants during a fierce battle in the Lake Chad region, although the Chadian army tragically lost 15 personnel in the confrontation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 10, Chadian Army spokesperson General Issakha Acheikh confirmed the heavy casualties. He added that 11 militants were wounded in the clash, and the forces seized 107 individual weapons and three collective weapons from the militants. Additionally, six canoes, which Boko Haram had used for attacks and transportation, were destroyed.
General Acheikh mourned the loss of 15 Chadian soldiers who died in combat, stating they gave their lives on the “Field of Honor.” Another 32 soldiers were injured and have been evacuated to Ndjamena for urgent medical care.
This confrontation follows an earlier attack in October when militants targeted a Chadian military base in Barkaram, killing approximately 40 soldiers. The Chadian forces swiftly retaliated, leading to the recent casualties during this operation.
Barkaram, an island located west of Ngouboua in the Lac province, remains a critical point of conflict between Chadian forces and insurgents operating in the region.
