The Katsina State Hisbah Board on Thursday carried out a major operation in Funtua, destroying more than 120 cartons of seized alcoholic drinks as part of its ongoing campaign against activities deemed contrary to Islamic teachings and public morality.
The destruction exercise was led by D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe, Commander of the Hisbah Board in Dandume Local Government Area, and supported by officials from the Funtua zone. The team was also joined by the State Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu-Ammar), PhD, who visited the area to oversee the enforcement activity.
According to Hisbah officials, the confiscated alcohol was seized during routine operations aimed at curbing consumption, distribution, and trafficking of intoxicants considered unlawful under Islamic law. Authorities described the action as necessary to tackle what they termed rising moral decadence in the region.
During the exercise, several Islamic scholars issued stern admonitions about the dangers of alcohol consumption, emphasizing that intoxicants remain forbidden in Islam and a threat to societal wellbeing.
Speaking after the destruction exercise, Sheikh Abu-Ammar highlighted the board’s ongoing fight against alcohol-related activities since the re-establishment of the Hisbah by Governor Dikko Radda. He commended the governor for his commitment to strengthening the institution, describing it as timely and crucial in protecting the moral fabric of communities across the state.
The event was attended by senior officials of the Hisbah Board from the Funtua zone, as well as prominent Islamic scholars from across the region.
