A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), his son, and a co-defendant at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The defendants were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on multiple counts bordering on alleged money laundering and related offences. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During proceedings, Malami’s legal team made an oral application for bail, but the trial judge declined the request, insisting that a formal bail application must be properly filed and argued. The court consequently ordered that the defendants be taken into custody pending the hearing of their bail motion.

The case has been adjourned to a later date for the hearing and determination of the bail application, while further proceedings are expected as the trial progresses.
