On Monday, an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court ordered the remand of 23-year-old Isaac Ikwupa in a correctional facility over allegations of assaulting a 21-year-old woman.
Ikwupa, whose address was not disclosed, faces trial on a four-count charge including rape, sexual assault by penetration, and unlawful assault.
Chief Magistrate Mr. B.A. Sonuga did not take a plea from the defendant. Instead, he ordered that Ikwupa be remanded in custody and that the case file be forwarded to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned to September 25, pending the DPP’s response.
Earlier in the proceedings, Prosecuting Counsel ASP Isaac Aminu informed the court that the alleged offenses occurred around midnight on June 24 at No. 1 Unity Crescent, Ojokoro village area in Ikorodu.
According to Aminu, the defendant is accused of sexually assaulting the complainant by penetration, indecently touching her, dragging her from her home to the rear of a building, and unlawfully assaulting her by physically touching and pushing her down.
The charges contravene Sections 260, 261, 136, and 171 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
