Court Remands TikTok Content Creator for Alleged Cyberbullying of FRSC Official

An Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of a TikTok content creator, Emmanuel Ajibade, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre over alleged cyberbullying and defamation of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official.

Presiding over the case on Thursday, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ruled that Ajibade be held in custody until June 27, 2025, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The magistrate stated that her decision followed the review of both the prosecution’s affidavit and the defence’s counter-affidavit.

“I have listened to the affidavit and counter-affidavit of both the prosecution and defence counsel. I hereby order the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the DPP,” Odenusi-Fadeyi declared.

According to Voice Of the People (VOP), Ajibade was initially arraigned before the court on April 24, 2025, on charges related to cyberstalking and cyberbullying against an FRSC official, Ibitoye Samuel.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, informed the court that the offence was committed in the Higher Height Area of Orita Obele, Akure. He alleged that Ajibade, operating under the TikTok handle @checkers69, conspired with others (still at large) to disseminate false and defamatory content online.

The prosecution said the content caused annoyance, danger, insult, criminal defamation, and psychological distress, as well as intimidation, enmity, and needless anxiety for the victim.

Oniyere added that the alleged offences contravene Sections 24(b) and 27(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and requested the court to remand the defendant pursuant to Section 269(2)(b) of the Laws of the Federation.

Ajibade’s legal representatives, Mr. A. F. Awala and Mr. O. I. Tiwo, objected to the remand request and submitted a counter-affidavit in defence of their client.

The case has been adjourned until June 27, 2025, for further legal advice and proceedings.
