COURT RESERVES JUDGEMENT ON REMANDED REPS MEMBER

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has reserved judgment for the bail application by a member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Chinyere Igwe.

Igwe, representing Phalga constituency 2 at the National Assembly, is standing trial for money laundering.

He was allegedly arrested in possession of the sum of 498,000 US dollars on the morning of the general elections.

When the matter was called on Tuesday, the principal prosecuting counsel, Chidi Ekeh, from the office of the Attorney General, applied to take over the prosecution from the police, which was not opposed by the defendant’s counsel, Reuben Wanoghor.

Justice Day-Lop Pam reserved judgment for the bail application and hearing of the substantive matter for the 4th of May 2023. Subsequently, the judge ordered that the defendant be remanded in Police custody
