Ilorin Court Dissolves Marriage on Mutual Agreement

An Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday officially dissolved the Islamic marriage between Mujidat Abdullahi and Muyideen Raji following a mutual agreement between the couple.

Presiding Judge, Toyin Aluko, ruled on the matter after receiving a letter from Raji, indicating his consent to his wife’s divorce application. He noted that since both parties agreed to end the union, there was no justification to prolong the proceedings.

“Marriage should not be forced on anyone,” Aluko stated.

In his judgment, the judge awarded custody of the couple’s only child to Abdullahi, citing the child’s young age as the reason. He ordered that she observe the mandatory iddah (waiting period) before entering into another marriage.

The court also directed that a copy of the judgment be provided to the husband.

Raji was ordered to pay a monthly sum of ₦10,000 for the child’s feeding and general upkeep. He was granted unrestricted but reasonable access to the child.

Earlier during the hearing, Abdullahi told the court she was no longer interested in the marriage, citing lack of love and care as her reasons for seeking a divorce.
