Some loyal followers of former President Muhammadu Buhari are thinking about leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before the next general election in 2027.
These loyalists are part of a political group called the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), which joined with other groups in 2013 to form the APC. Many of them now feel ignored and unhappy with how the APC is being run.
โThereโs no longer respect for those who helped build the party. We feel pushed aside,โ said one CPC member who didnโt want to be named.
Sources say the group may either form a new political party or team up with another one before the 2027 elections.
If this happens, it could reduce APCโs support, especially in the northern part of the country, where Buhari and his followers are still very popular.
A political expert, Aminu Bello, said, โIf the group leaves, it could seriously affect the APC in the next election.โ
So far, APC leaders have not officially responded, but there are talks that they may try to settle the issues to keep the party united.
With less than two years to go before the 2027 elections, Nigeriaโs political scene may be in for some big changes.
