The Cross River State Government has announced plans to review safety protocols at the Obudu Ranch Resort following a tragic road accident near Ikwette community bottom hill that claimed four lives and left nine others injured.
Governor Bassey Otu confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nsa Gil.
The incident occurred on Saturday when a vehicle carrying 13 passengers crashed near the base of the hill leading to the resort. Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure may have contributed to the accident.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Nigerian Army stationed at the ranch, arrived swiftly at the scene to provide assistance.
Governor Otu disclosed that the victims were seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Diocese, who had just concluded a tour of the resort. The group was led by a reverend father, and the crash happened outside the main premises of the ranch.
โDetails of the victims are still being gathered,โ the governor said, adding that the state government is in touch with the families of the deceased and injured to provide necessary support during this difficult time.
He also urged all visitors to prioritise safety by ensuring their vehicles are in good condition and by adhering strictly to travel guidelines when visiting the resort.
Governor Otu extended his condolences to the bereaved families and called for privacy and compassion as they grieve their loss.
