Customs Revenue Generation: Apapa Port Command Collects N1.87trillion, Hands Over Drugs To NDLEA, NAFDAC

The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service said it generated a total of NI.87 trillion from January to October 2024, stating that the figure is 101 per cent higher than the N931 billion it generated in the corresponding period of 2023.

Compt. Babatunde Olomu, who disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos Monday, said the figure was boosted by the October revenue collection of N264.45 billion, which he noted was the command’s highest monthly collection ever. He noted that at this rate, the command will meet and even surpass its target of N2.2 trillion before the year ends.

Meanwhile, Olomu said the command has keyed into trade facilitation tools like the Authorised Economic Operators and Advanced Ruling, to ensure seamless movement of import and export cargoes, and facilitated the first shipment of cargo to Kenya under the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement last week.

Meanwhile, as part of the collaboration with sister-agencies, Olomu handed over six containers carrying falsely declared and unwholesome pharmaceutical and controlled products to the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

He stated that as a service, the NCS owes Nigerians the duty of preventing the import and export of cargo that could undermine their well-being and security, stating that some of the medical imports have expired, while others were not evaluated by NAFDAC and could be hazardous to Nigerians if consumed, including some unapproved dosage of tramadol and cough syrup with codeine, among others.
