Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has raised eyebrows by claiming the club is “on the right track” despite enduring one of their worst-ever Premier League campaigns.
United slumped to their 13th league defeat of the season on Tuesday, falling 1-0 to Nottingham Forest after a stunning solo goal from academy graduate Anthony Elanga. The loss leaves United languishing in 13th place with just eight games remaining and on the brink of equaling their record for most Premier League defeats in a single season—set under Erik ten Hag just last year.
Despite the club’s embarrassing position, Dalot remained optimistic, insisting the team is showing signs of improvement under new boss Ruben Amorim.
“If we want to be competitive in the future, we have to start behaving like this and we have to perform like this,” Dalot told MUTV, despite United’s 23 shots against Forest yielding no goals.
His comments have sparked debate among fans and pundits, with many questioning whether United’s disastrous form can truly be seen as progress.
United’s misery could deepen further as they face a daunting showdown against Manchester City on Sunday, followed by a crucial Europa League quarter-final clash with Lyon next week. With Champions League qualification slipping further out of reach, Amorim’s United tenure is already facing serious scrutiny.
