The decomposed body of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has been discovered along the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Azuka, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1, was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunabankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha. His body was located by a combined security team following weeks of investigation.
Security operatives from Abuja arrested the suspects on Wednesday, who then led authorities to the location where Azuka’s remains were abandoned.
While details of the incident remain unclear, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State Police spokesman, confirmed that officers have been dispatched to the scene. He assured the public that further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
This tragic event marks the second time in recent years that an Anambra lawmaker has been kidnapped and killed. In 2022, Okey Okoye, also known as “Okey Di Ok,” was abducted and beheaded. His body was later discovered near the Nnobi area.
The South-East region, including Anambra State, has been plagued by escalating violence, with gunmen attacking public facilities and claiming numerous lives, despite government efforts to curb the unrest. Calls for secession in the region have also intensified, but no group has yet taken responsibility for the wave of violence.
