Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has joined millions of Deltans in celebrating the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation, describing Delta as a beacon of resilience, diversity, and progress in Nigeria’s federation.
In a congratulatory message made available to Voice of the People (VOP) on Thursday in Abuja, Nwoko said the anniversary was both a moment of celebration and sober reflection on how far the state had come since 1991.
“Thirty-four years of Delta is 34 years of collective struggle, triumphs, and aspirations. We have seen the state evolve through different phases, and today we celebrate not only our history but also the promise of our future,” he stated.
Nwoko, who chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, recalled the state’s early infrastructural challenges but praised the unbroken resilience of its people. He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the state government, federal legislators, and local stakeholders to address infrastructure, security, education, and social welfare.
While acknowledging Delta’s strides in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and human capital development, he urged more attention to rural communities. “The soul of Delta lies not only in Asaba or Warri, but also in our villages, riverine communities, and agrarian settlements,” he noted.
The senator also highlighted youth and women empowerment as vital for sustaining the state’s future, urging leaders at all levels to create enabling opportunities for them to thrive.
He further called on leaders and residents to rally behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, stressing that governance was a collective responsibility.
“I wish all Deltans a joyous 34th anniversary and assure them of my continued efforts at the national level to ensure that the voice of the state remains strong and respected,” Nwoko said.
