In a heartbreaking event, the newly appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division in Delta State, CSP Jega, along with several officers, was ambushed and killed by a suspected kidnap syndicate early Monday morning. This incident occurred just two days after CSP Jega assumed his post.

According to reports, CSP Jega and the DPO of the Orerokpe division, CSP Paul, were leading a joint operation to rescue kidnapping victims when they were attacked near the Agbarho rail station around 1 AM. The kidnappers opened fire on the police team, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Tragically, CSP Jega and some officers lost their lives, while CSP Paul narrowly escaped and is currently hospitalized in critical condition.

He conveyed his condolences to the families of the fallen officers and the Delta State Police Command, urging that those responsible for this heinous act must be brought to justice.

SP Bright Edafe, the police public relations officer for Delta State Command, confirmed the ambush, stating, “They were ambushed, and unfortunately, we lost the DPO.”
