Delta Govt Applauds Completed Projects in CoE Mosogar

The Delta State Government has commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the timely completion of its 2024 Special High Impact Intervention projects at the College of Education (CoE), Mosogar.

Chairman of the Governing Council of the College, Chief Akpodiogaga Emeyese, made this known during an interview with the Voice of the People (VOP) in Abuja on Monday.

According to Emeyese, the completed projects include a fully furnished School of Education complex and a furnished administrative building. The School of Education complex features a suspended floor storey structure with classrooms and offices, while the administrative building comprises a two-storey facility with fully equipped office spaces.

He lauded TETFund’s commitment to enhancing the quality of public tertiary education, describing the intervention as not only timely but impactful.

Established in 2002, the College currently runs National Universities Commission (NUC)-approved affiliate degree programmes with three Nigerian universities — the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt. It also offers over 15 academic programmes, including postgraduate degrees.

Emeyese said the college’s vision is to become a centre of excellence dedicated to the holistic education of individuals, and he emphasized that the institution has the potential to evolve into a full-fledged university given its growing manpower and infrastructure.

With 20 academic departments under its NCE programme covering Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Vocational Education, the college is also known for excellence in sports education, ICT, and technology development.

In light of these achievements, Emeyese appealed for the completion of additional TETFund interventions, including a modern library complex, an ultra-modern hostel for male and female students, a 500-capacity ICT centre for JAMB exams, and a Provost’s Lodge.

He highlighted existing infrastructure such as standard science laboratories, a perimeter fence, clean water supply, power backup systems (275kVA, 100kVA generators, and 80kVA solar systems), WiFi coverage, and an Olympic-size swimming pool. The campus also houses demonstration primary and secondary schools, and staff welfare buses.

Emeyese expressed gratitude to TETFund Executive Secretary, Mr. Sonny Echono, for sustaining a productive relationship with the outgoing Provost, Dr. Israel Imide, who is set to hand over the leadership of the college to Dr. Samuel Ugboduma on Tuesday.
