The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, has emphasized the importance of regular exercise for maintaining physical and mental well-being.
Hon. Okoye made the remarks during the fifth edition of the “Amawbia Walk,” an annual event aimed at promoting health, unity, and awareness of government initiatives. Participants in this year’s walk covered an impressive 9.14 kilometers, taking 11,916 steps while demonstrating remarkable stamina and enthusiasm.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Okoye highlighted the broader objectives of the walk, noting that it goes beyond physical fitness. “This initiative is about fostering unity, cultivating personal discipline, and building a culture of wellness that benefits not just Amawbia but the entire state,” he said.
He further described healthy minds and bodies as invaluable assets for any community, emphasizing the role of such events in driving progress and social cohesion.
Former President General of Amawbia, Comrade Ebele Nwufo, and the town’s Deputy President General, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwora, commended the Deputy Speaker for sustaining the initiative for five consecutive years. They lauded the massive turnout, which included both indigenes and non-indigenes.
Participants such as Nneka Uzokama and Udochukwu Nwora described the walk as a memorable yuletide activity, providing an opportunity to explore the town, network, and bond with others. They expressed gratitude to Hon. Okoye for championing such a meaningful cause.
The Amawbia Walk continues to inspire residents, fostering a sense of community while promoting health and well-being.
