Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has said the only solution to banditry in the State is divine intervention.
Yari, currently a Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial Zone, made the disclosure at his Talata Mafara residence.
According to him, most of the residents seem to have become distracted from the divine and holy messages contained in the Qur’an and teachings of Prophet Muhammad which emphasize absolute need for brotherhood and selflessness.
He also noted that “Should we all drop wickedness and other religiously prohibited attitudes, I am certain that Almighty Allah will seize over his punishments we are currently suffering in our dear state and nation at large.”END QUOTE
The Senator lamented that every effort to end banditry either by the use force or dialogue by the governments has failed.
He said the situation is fast deteriorating to the extent that people could not run their legitimate businesses, no farming, no trading and other sources of living.
He also stated that the harsh situation people are living in was a result of lack of focus on agriculture.
