Doctor Arrested for Supplying Drugs to Kidnappers in Kwara

The Department of State Services (DSS) has intercepted and detained a medical doctor accused of serving as a key courier for kidnapping syndicates operating across parts of Kwara State.

The doctor, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested in the Jebba axis after intelligence reports allegedly linked him to the movement of medical supplies from Sokoto to criminal gangs hiding in forested regions of the state.

According to findings, kidnapping networks in the area have recently become increasingly desperate for medical attention as several members reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during confrontations with security operatives.

In a statement posted Friday on its X handle, the Kwara State Government confirmed the development, noting that DSS operatives disclosed that the criminal groups were urgently seeking medical support following injuries sustained in firefights with security forces.

The statement read, “The Department of State Services has taken into custody a medical doctor who was ferrying drugs from Sokoto to kidnappers in parts of Kwara State. The doctor was intercepted in the Jebba area following intelligence reports about the activities of the kidnappers and their couriers.”

It further noted that security officials have advised health facilities located in or near forested zones to increase surveillance and safety measures, as the injured kidnappers may attempt to seek treatment covertly.

This arrest comes amid a surge in abductions across Kwara. SaharaReporters previously reported that two Chinese nationals working with BUA on the Bode Saadu/Kaiama/Kosubosu road project were abducted earlier in the week.

Security sources said masked gunmen invaded the construction site on December 1, firing sporadically for nearly three hours before abducting the two expatriates. The attack occurred between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., near the villages of Bielesin/Fallah and Olokiti.

“As of now, there has been no communication from the abductors,” a security operative told SaharaReporters, adding that no casualties were recorded aside from the kidnapping of the two Chinese workers, who were taken to an unknown location.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and security operations have been intensified across vulnerable parts of the state.”
