A dramatic legal showdown is unfolding in Lagos as medical doctor Ojo Ademola takes on a former Lagos State Task Force boss, Engineer Peter Omotosho, Starmark Finance Company Limited, and another defendant over what he describes as their blatant disregard for a court order restraining them from encroaching on his Lekki property.
Dr. Ademola has now escalated the matter by filing a *Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Court Order* (Form 48) before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja. The notice also names Mr. Tunji Solaja, whom he accuses of openly violating a court ruling delivered by Justice Akinkunmi Idowu on December 10, 2024.
In an even more contentious twist, Ademola is challenging the involvement of the Lagos State Attorney General’s law firm, Lawal Pedro (SAN) & Associates, in defending Starmark Finance Company Limited. His legal team, led by Ayodele Osanyinlusi, argues that the Attorney General’s office, being a government institution, has a conflict of interest in representing a private entity in a land dispute. He has petitioned the court to revoke the firm’s representation of Starmark Finance, citing bias.
Meanwhile, the court had already issued an interlocutory injunction barring the defendants from trespassing or interfering with the property, located at Plot 1, Block 4, Lekki Peninsula, Scheme 1, Admiralty Road, Eti Osa Local Government Area. The order explicitly prohibited the use of force, thugs, police, or any government agency to harass or intimidate Ademola or his workers.
Yet, in what appears to be a flagrant disregard for judicial authority, the defendants allegedly continue to employ police officers and other covert tactics to disrupt Ademola’s ownership of the land. His lawyer insists that even after an advisory from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) recommending the prosecution of the offenders, the land grabbers persist with their attempts to forcibly seize the property.
“Despite having a valid court order and all legal ownership documents, my client has been subjected to intimidation, police harassment, and illegal invasions orchestrated by individuals who believe they are above the law,” Osanyinlusi fumed.
The case has now been adjourned to April 10, 2025, when the court is expected to hear Ademola’s committal proceedings against the accused parties, which could result in their imprisonment for contempt of court.
This legal battle is more than just a property dispute—it exposes a disturbing trend of lawlessness, where powerful individuals and entities allegedly defy court rulings with impunity. Ademola has even called on President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Inspector General of Police to intervene, fearing for his life and investment.
According to him, the Lekki land was legally purchased from *Churchgate Nigeria Ltd* in 2020, with all necessary approvals and the Governor’s consent. His dream of building a world-class specialist hospital now hangs in the balance, threatened by what he describes as “brazen land speculation and political influence.”
As the April court date looms, Lagosians will be watching closely: Will justice prevail, or will power and influence override the rule of law?
