Don Urges Increased Investment in Intellectual, Religious, and Cultural Activities

A lecturer at Lagos State University, Prof. Nosirudeen Onibon, has called for increased investment in intellectual, spiritual, and cultural activities as a way to deepen knowledge and promote excellence within communities.

Prof. Onibon made the call during a Qur’anic quiz competition held at the First Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun, as part of activities marking the Kayokayo Festival in Epe, Lagos State.

According to him, the competition was designed to promote both intellectual and spiritual excellence, bringing together participants from across the Epe Division of Lagos State.

“A competition like this can put Epe on the map of excellence,” Onibon said, adding that events of this nature could serve as a springboard for national recognition and cultural prominence, not only for Epe but for Lagos State as a whole.

One of the festival organisers, Mrs. Olusola Alade-Raji, encouraged parents to go beyond encouraging Qur’anic recitation and ensure their children pursue a deeper understanding and application of Islamic teachings in their daily lives.

The event was attended by dignitaries including representatives of the Oloja of Lagos and the Grand Chief Imam of Epe, reflecting the cultural and religious significance of the occasion.

The Kayokayo Festival, an annual event in Epe, celebrates history, faith, and unity through a blend of traditional and religious activities, and continues to draw attention for its contribution to community development and youth engagement.
