€5.5M Down the Drain? Injury-Prone Adams Ruled Out for Rest of Season at Sevilla

Sevilla’s ambitious signing of Akor Adams from Montpellier in January for €5.5 million has turned into a nightmare for both the club and the Nigerian forward. The 25-year-old striker, who was expected to spearhead Sevilla’s attack amid their relegation battle, will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season after suffering a serious thigh injury during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Atlético Madrid.

The club confirmed that Adams has torn his rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh and will be sidelined for at least two months, effectively ending his season. This injury marks yet another blow for the forward, whose time in Spain has been marred by a string of setbacks. After a promising debut in February, Adams was forced to sit out for over five weeks due to injury, and since returning, he has failed to find the net in his limited appearances.

Adams’ inability to make an impact, coupled with the ongoing injury crisis at Sevilla—where fellow winter signing Rubén Vargas is also ruled out for the season—raises serious questions about the club’s transfer strategy. Many are now wondering if the hefty €5.5 million fee for Adams, who previously made 47 Ligue 1 appearances with Montpellier, was money poorly spent.

With Sevilla’s survival in La Liga still in jeopardy, fans are asking: Can the club afford another flop in the transfer market, or has Adams’ signing been an expensive mistake?
