Ebonyi state Governor David Umahi has declared his intention to contest for the post of Senate President for the 10th National Assembly.
He made the declaration in Abakaliki, the state capital today during the State Executive Council meeting.
He called on the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the All Progressive Congress (APC) to consider zoning the position to the southeast.
He further urged the party to zone the Speakership of the House of Representatives to the Northeast.
The governor noted that zoning the two positions to the aforementioned zones will be in the interest of equity, justice, and fairness.
You will recall that the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, on Tuesday warned that since Nigeria is a secular state, it would not be right for persons of the same religious faith to occupy the first three highest political offices in the country.
Kalu who spoke with journalists on Tuesday, stated that it was his turn to become the President of the Senate, noting that he is the most ranking Senator of the APC from the South East.
