Education Expert Urges Schools to Embrace Technology in Classrooms

An education expert has called for the urgent integration of technology education into school curricula across Nigeria, stressing that the future of learning and work depends heavily on digital skills.

Speaking at an education summit, the expert explained that many young people are leaving school without the technological knowledge needed to compete in today’s job market. According to him, schools must go beyond traditional subjects like Mathematics and English to include coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital literacy.

The call comes at a time when Nigeria is witnessing rapid growth in its tech industry, with young innovators building apps, launching startups, and gaining global recognition. Analysts believe that without strong tech education at the foundation level, millions of children risk being left behind in a world that is moving faster than ever.

However, challenges remain. Many schools, particularly in rural areas, lack reliable electricity, internet, and access to computers. Teachers also need training to confidently deliver tech-based lessons. Despite these barriers, experts argue that starting small—through digital clubs, basic computer training, and partnerships with private tech firms—could make a big difference.

For parents and policymakers, the message is clear: preparing children for the future means equipping them with the skills of the digital age. As the expert put it, “Technology is no longer optional in education; it is essential.”

In simple terms, introducing technology into classrooms today could mean unlocking opportunities for the next generation tomorrow.
