EFCC Invades Abuja Property Despite Court Order, Jona Brothers Win N20m

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has again stormed a disputed parcel of land in the Mabushi area of Abuja, just days after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court barred the agency from further investigation, prosecution, or interference in the matter.

SaharaReporters obtained video evidence showing EFCC officials entering the property, with one operative seen carrying mattresses into the premises, allegedly preparing to stay overnight.

The development comes despite a clear judgment delivered on November 11, 2025, by Justice Modupe Osho-Adebiyi, who dismissed Charge No. FCT/HC/CR/151/2023 filed against Jona Brothers Construction Ltd. and its director, Comrade Uche Vincent.

In her ruling, Justice Osho-Adebiyi described the EFCC’s actions over the ownership dispute of plots 680–689, Cadastral Zone B06, Mabushi, Abuja, as a “gross abuse of statutory powers” and a “malicious, vexatious and oppressive use of legal process.”

The court not only terminated the case at the preliminary stage but also imposed a punitive cost of N20 million against the EFCC. The agency was further restrained from initiating any fresh charges, investigations or interference regarding the land, especially while the subsisting judgment of Justice S. U. Bature — which affirmed Jona Brothers as the rightful owner — remains in force.

A formal restraining order was issued on November 28, 2025.

EFCC Returns to Property 24 Hours After Court Order

Despite the order, EFCC operatives reportedly returned to the land on Friday, November 28, 2025.

According to lawyers representing Jona Brothers, the EFCC arrived with about six armed policemen and over 30 individuals, some said to be associates of businessman Chief Michael Adeojo, the main petitioner against the company.

The officers allegedly broke into a temporary structure on the land, accessed documents and building materials, and moved in mattresses. They reportedly stayed on the property until December 1, 2025, leaving only after learning that Jona Brothers was mobilising to challenge the intrusion.

The company has described the move as a blatant violation of the court’s directives and an escalating attempt to undermine judicial authority.
