VOP NG reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals for allegedly engaging in vote-buying during last Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.
The suspects were apprehended in Njikoka, Oyi, and Dunukofia Local Government Areas and have since been transferred to Enugu for further investigation, the agency confirmed.
The arrested individuals are:
Emeka Ilokasia, detained in Ward 2, Njikoka LGA
Nwachukwu Loretta, apprehended in Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu, Oyi LGA
Emuka Chuwudi, arrested at Umunachi Village, Dunukofia LGA
EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, clarified reports suggesting the suspects had been released, stating that they were temporarily handed over to the police because the Commission currently lacks a holding facility in Anambra State.
“The suspects were handed over to the police initially because our Anambra office does not yet have a holding facility. They have now been moved to Enugu. They remain in our custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Oyewale explained.

The arrests follow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludoof the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election held on November 8, 2025. Soludo polled 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 99,445 votes. Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.
Allegations of vote-buying emerged immediately after the results were announced. Chioma Ifemeludike, the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate, claimed that voters were reportedly selling their votes for between ₦3,000 and ₦5,000, often under the supervision of unidentified agents.
