Election: Soludo Dismisses Opposition, Declares Himself Unchallenged

In a bold and controversial declaration, Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has dismissed any serious competition ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election, claiming he has not seen any worthy challenger.

Speaking during a media chat to mark his third year in office, Soludo, who is seeking a second term under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), confidently asserted that no opposition party has presented a viable candidate to challenge his administration.

“If there is an election, I mean there will be an election, and if I am a candidate, I will be on the ballot. Then I ask: who else is running? Which party is fielding a candidate? So far, unless the person will come down from somewhere, I have not heard of any,” he boasted.

The governor’s remarks have sparked reactions, with critics accusing him of undermining the democratic process and dismissing potential opposition. Some argue that his confidence reflects APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics, while others see it as an attempt to discourage opposition parties.

Soludo acknowledged that some have urged him to seek re-election but insisted that the decision ultimately rests with APGA and the electorate.

“The party has to agree to it and give me the platform. For me, I applied for this job intentionally because I felt that’s my way of thanking God for His bountiful blessing—to spend the rest of my life serving and leaving this place better than I met it,” he stated.

Anambra remains one of the few states with off-season elections due to past court rulings, making the upcoming poll a significant political event. However, with Soludo’s latest comments, the question remains—will any strong opposition emerge, or is Anambra heading for a one-horse race?
