

Opposition party leader, Tundu Lissu has been charged with treason by a Tanzanian court, following his arrest at a public rally held in southern part of the country.
The rally, in which the Chairman of Chadema party called for electoral reform have been described by the authorities as inciting the public against holding the general election.
Tindu arrived Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court, along with his lawyers and opposition party politicians.
He was not allowed to enter a plea on the treason charge, but pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of publishing false information.
Lissu’s lawyer, however stated that the charges against his client were politically driven.
