The Electoral Commission of Ghana has disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe due to a pending court case. Cudjoe is accused of forging her National Democratic Congress (NDC) party card and backdating it to meet the party’s four-year eligibility requirement.

The case originated when Gyedu Frimpong, a resident of Amenfi Central, petitioned the Electoral Commission to reject Cudjoe’s nomination. The High Court in Takoradi had issued an injunction preventing the EC from accepting her nomination, and Frimpong argued that accepting it would be contempt of court.

The petition stated that Cudjoe, who contested the NDC parliamentary primary in Amenfi Central, needed a valid national voter ID to qualify. However, her voter ID bore 11 digits instead of the standard 10. Additionally, Cudjoe used two different voter ID numbers, one of which allegedly belonged to another individual, raising concerns of forgery.

Frimpong provided supporting documents, including findings from the NDC’s Amenfi and Bantama constituencies, which concluded that Cudjoe had fraudulently altered her voter ID to qualify for the primaries.
