Emefiele Weeps in Court as Arraignment for Fraud is Stalled

The suspended Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele wept in Court today after the High court of the Federal Capital Territory adjourned his arraignment to August 23, 2023.

The case was stalled due to the absence of another defendant, Sa’adatu Yaro who is said to be indisposed in a corruption and conspiracy case over N6.9 billion alleged procurement fraud brought against them by the Federal government.

Emefiele was seen weeping after the adjournment, while being consoled by some of his lawyers.

The Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, who is prosecuting the case for the Federal Government, told trial Justice Hamza Muazu that Mrs. Yaro took ill and was not able to make it to the court.

He, therefore, applied for a new date, a request that was not opposed by Emefiele’s lawyer.

Consequently, Justice Muazu adjourned the case till August 23.

Immediately the matter was adjourned, armed operatives of the Department of the State Service, DSS, whisked Emefiele away from the court.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Lagos, today, struck out charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition preferred against suspended CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele
