It was a moment of celebration for Rev. Fr. Dr. Cosmas Maduakonam Ekwutosi, his relations, his associates, his friends and well-wishers, as they joined him to celebrate his 40th Priestly Anniversary.

The historic event, which took place at St John’s Catholic Church, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, on Sunday,1st December, 2024, was graced by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor represented by the Dean, Agulu Deanery, Rev Fr Hyacinth Anaekee; the Bishop’s Secretary, Rev Fr Evaristus Ifeanacho, among other priests and religious from Awka and faraway dioceses.

In the homily during a Pontifical Holy Mass heralding the epoch-making event, Rev Fr Dr Aloysius Ezeanolue of St Mary’s Parish, Awgbu, described Rev Fr Ekwutosi as a hardworking, humble and caring priest.

Like Rev Fr. Ezeanolue, the dignitaries that graced the occasion took turns to shower encomia on Rev Fr Ekwutosi. Among them was a friend and classmate of the celebrant, Sir Paul Nsofor, who chaired the occasion. Sir Nsofor told Fides that ‘Rev Fr Ekwutosi is so good and dedicated. He believes and lives out what he professes.’

Fides recalls that Rev Fr. Ekwutosi was ordained in 1984 by the late Archbishop Albert Obiefuna, and began his priestly work at Holy Name, Umuchu. Today, he is the Parish Priest of St John’s Parish, Agulu. While speaking with Fides, Fr Ekwutosi felt optimistic fulfilling his life ambition as a Catholic Priest.
