The Enugu State Gaming and Lotto Commission has sealed several unauthorized and unlicensed gaming centres across different parts of the state capital as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal gambling operations.
During an enforcement exercise on Sunday, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prince Arinze Arum, stated that the operation reflects the agencyโs renewed commitment to curbing illegal gaming activities in the state.
Among the affected establishments were Ballroom, Eclipse Resort, Edge Guest House, Guaranty Resort, Kepong Villa, and Desa Park City Suite/Gardenโall operated by Yanga Gameโwhere unlicensed jackpot slot machines were discovered and shut down.
Arum warned operators who attempt to bypass regulatory processes that they would face serious consequences. He emphasized that the Commission has deployed advanced technology with geo-location capabilities to monitor all licensed gaming operators within the state.
โOur job is to license and monitor gaming operators to ensure full compliance with the laws. Weโre enforcing those laws today by sealing unapproved gaming centres. The government is fully committed to promoting responsible gaming,โ Arum said.

He stressed the importance of a well-regulated gaming sector, stating, โWe must build a structured and transparent gaming ecosystem. That starts with proper licensing. Anyone operating behind the scenes without approval is creating risk and will be held accountable.โ
The Executive Secretary also linked the enforcement initiative to Governor Peter Mbahโs broader economic vision, which includes growing Enuguโs economy to $30 billion and improving the ease of doing business across all sectors.
According to Arum, acquiring a gaming license in Enugu has become significantly easier and more efficient. The Commission has introduced a digital system that reduces the licensing process from several months to just seven working days.
โOperators can now apply for their licenses online from the comfort of their homes. With such a seamless process in place, thereโs no excuse for running illegal gaming operations,โ he added.
