Enugu State Security Trust Fund: A Model for Sustainable Security – VOP

The Enugu State Security Trust Fund Fundraising Dinner, held yesterday, was more than just an event—it was a resounding testament to the power of collaboration between the government, the people, and corporate organizations in ensuring a safer Enugu.

Speaking at the event, Governor of Enugu State expressed deep appreciation to the Board of Trustees for their dedication to sustainable security funding. He specifically commended Dr. Ike Chioke, Engr. Chinedu Joseph Ani, and the entire Board for setting a remarkable template for security financing.

“Their names will always be remembered for this labor of love,” the governor stated, while also extending special gratitude to Prince Engr. Arthur Eze (Ozoigbondu) for his leadership and generosity in championing the initiative.

Enugu’s Security Transformation

Reflecting on the security challenges faced twenty months ago, the governor recalled a time when fear and lawlessness gripped the state due to the infamous “sit-at-home” order, which crippled businesses, disrupted education, and left families in distress. Criminal gangs openly challenged security forces, and streets were deserted.

“But today, the transformation is undeniable,” he affirmed. “We have reclaimed our city. Nightlife has returned, businesses thrive, and our children can now attend school without fear.”

The governor highlighted significant investments in security infrastructure, including:

A state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre

AI-enhanced surveillance systems

A Distress Response Squad (DRS)

“These are not just interventions,” he emphasized. “They are assurances that Enugu will remain safe, secure, and open for business.”

Collective Responsibility in Security

Acknowledging that security is a shared responsibility, the governor stressed the importance of the Enugu State Security Trust Fund in ensuring the sustainability of these efforts. He revealed the state’s ambitious N20 billion target for 2025, urging all stakeholders to contribute toward achieving it.

“Our pledge is clear—to build a future where safety is not a privilege but a certainty,” he declared. “A future where businesses flourish, travel within the state is seamless, and every investor, visitor, and resident feels secure.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the governor concluded, “By the grace of God, we will not renege. Tomorrow is here.”
