The Chairman of Epe Local Government Area in Lagos State, Ms. Surah Animashahun, has vowed to harness grassroots tourism to position the community as one of Nigeria’s most preferred tourist destinations.
Animashahun made the pledge in an interview with the Voice of the people (VOP) on Monday in Epe.
She described Epe as a land richly endowed with serene landscapes, historic watersides, vibrant cultural traditions, exquisite cuisine, and an enduring heritage that continues to inspire pride and resilience.
“From festivals that echo the wisdom of generations to the evolving attractions shaping our modern identity, Epe remains one of the brightest gems of Lagos State’s tourism treasure,” she said.
The council boss emphasized that tourism is more than just an economic sector, but a bridge of opportunity, a pathway to prosperity, and a window through which the world experiences the essence of a people.
She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to positioning Epe as a premier hub of tourism and hospitality, where culture meets innovation and visitors can discover the true essence of Nigeria.
Animashahun disclosed that efforts were underway to improve infrastructure along tourism corridors, including better road networks, waterfront development, and cultural centres designed to enrich visitors’ experiences.
She added that collaboration with stakeholders, private investors, and traditional institutions would be critical in driving sustainable tourism growth, ensuring benefits for both the local economy and the people of Epe.
According to her, youth empowerment through training in hospitality, creative arts, and tourism services remains central to the council’s strategy to create jobs and wealth within the community.
“Together, let us preserve our heritage, celebrate our uniqueness, and open new doors of possibilities, so that Epe will continue to shine, not only as the pride of Lagos but as a destination of global admiration,” she said.
