Arsenal FC suffered a setback in the Premier League title race after a 2-1 home loss to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, boosting Manchester City’s hopes of closing the gap.

The visitors stunned the home crowd at the Emirates Stadium, taking the lead through teenage forward Junior Kroupi in the 17th minute.

Arsenal responded before the break, with Viktor Gyökeres converting from the penalty spot after a handball by Bournemouth captain Ryan Christie.

Despite making early second-half changes, manager Mikel Arteta saw his side struggle to break down a disciplined Bournemouth team led by Andoni Iraola.

Bournemouth regained the lead in the 74th minute when Alex Scott finished off a well-worked move, firing past goalkeeper David Raya.

Arsenal pushed for an equaliser but failed to find a breakthrough, suffering only their second home league defeat of the season.

Title race implications

With six matches remaining, Arsenal remain top of the table, nine points ahead of Manchester City.

However, City could cut the gap significantly if they defeat Chelsea FC and win their upcoming clash with Arsenal.

The result injects fresh tension into the title race, with momentum potentially shifting towards Pep Guardiola’s side.

Missed opportunities

Arsenal struggled to convert chances, with Kai Havertz missing a key first-half opportunity, while late efforts from Gyökeres failed to trouble Bournemouth’s defence.

The defeat comes despite a morale-boosting midweek win over Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League.

The loss tightens the Premier League title race and raises questions about Arsenal’s ability to maintain consistency under pressure, as Manchester City look to capitalise in the final stretch of the season.
