EU and Member States Have Provided $170 Billion in Support to Ukraine Since 2022

Since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022, the European Union and its member states have collectively provided nearly €150 billion (equivalent to around $170 billion) in financial, humanitarian, and military assistance to Ukraine, making the EU the largest global contributor to the country’s support efforts.

This announcement was made by European Commissioner for Trade, Valdis Dombrovskis, during a plenary session of the European Parliament held on Wednesday. In his address, Dombrovskis emphasized the scale and consistency of the EU’s commitment to Ukraine amid the ongoing war, noting that no other international partner has matched the level of support provided by the EU bloc.

“The European Union and its member states have provided nearly 150 billion euros in support for Ukraine—more than any other global partner,” Dombrovskis stated, underscoring the EU’s strategic and moral commitment to upholding Ukraine’s sovereignty and stability in the face of continued Russian aggression.

In addition to highlighting the financial and logistical backing extended to Kyiv, the Trade Commissioner reiterated the European Commission’s readiness to further strengthen punitive measures against the Russian Federation. This includes the expansion of existing sanctions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy, as well as individuals and entities deemed to be contributing to the war effort.

Dombrovskis affirmed that the EU would continue to explore additional avenues of economic pressure to undermine Russia’s ability to sustain its military operations, while simultaneously reinforcing Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself and recover from the devastation caused by the war.

The statement comes as the European Union intensifies its diplomatic and financial efforts to support Ukraine’s resilience, reconstruction, and integration into European structures, amid growing geopolitical tensions and ongoing instability in Eastern Europe.
