Ex-Federal Lawmaker Blasts Amaechi Over Remarks on Coastal Road

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Oghene Egoh, has faulted ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for describing the Federal Government’s Lagos–Calabar coastal road project as fraudulent.

Amaechi, a former presidential aspirant, had reportedly vowed to cancel the project if elected president.

Speaking to Voice of the people  (VOP) in Lagos on Monday, Egoh — who represented Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2024 — said Amaechi lacked the moral authority to criticise the initiative, noting that he failed to deliver similar infrastructure during his tenure.

“Amaechi did not do enough for the South-South when he was Minister of Transportation. Instead, he concentrated on building a railway to Niger Republic, neglecting critical infrastructure in the Niger Delta,” Egoh said.

He described the Lagos–Calabar coastal road as a game-changing project that would boost trade, enhance inter-state relations, and drive economic growth across the South-South and Lagos State. According to him, the road will create jobs, improve transport links, and promote national integration.

Egoh also praised President Bola Tinubu’s “bold and decisive” policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, saying they would yield long-term benefits despite short-term economic pain.

“Hunger in the land is temporary. Prices of rice and tomatoes have already started to drop, and with time, other food items will follow. The government is also empowering farmers to ensure food security and reduce reliance on imports,” he added.

He urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the government’s reforms, stressing that “what previous administrations could not achieve, President Tinubu is achieving.”
