Ex-IGP Okiro Brokers Peace in South-South Community, Abuja

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, has successfully resolved long-standing divisions within the South-South community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

TheVoice of the people (VOP) reports that the community had been deeply polarised by internal disputes and leadership tussles, threatening its unity and development.

According to Supreme Ibitomi, Okiro’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, the ex-police boss facilitated reconciliation among stakeholders through dialogue and statesmanship.

“Through his commitment to peace, Okiro has brought together previously divided groups under one united umbrella. By leveraging his wealth of experience in conflict resolution and community building, he restored harmony and fostered a renewed spirit of brotherhood,” Ibitomi said.

Okiro recalled his role as I-G, when he pioneered the Amnesty Programme that helped end youth restiveness in the Niger Delta, stressing that unity remained the foundation for progress.

“What binds us together as a people is far stronger than what divides us. Today, I am glad to say that the South-South community in Abuja stands united again. With this unity, we can achieve greater heights and contribute meaningfully to national growth,” he said.

Community leaders welcomed his intervention, describing it as timely and decisive.

Mr. Bello Premier, a stakeholder, praised Okiro’s “fatherly role” in reconciling factions, while Mr. Dickson Omoregie commended him for “demonstrating true leadership and restoring confidence among members.”

With the reconciliation achieved, stakeholders said the South-South community in the FCT is now better positioned to pursue peace, unity, and collective development.
