Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, has lost his wife, Hadiza Jega.

The Bayero University Kano announced the death in a statement on Sunday, expressing condolences to the family.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega,” the statement read.

The institution also disclosed that her Janazah prayer would be held after Zuhr at the National Mosque Abuja on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Condolences and prayers

The university prayed for the repose of the deceased, asking Allah to grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings, while also praying for strength for the bereaved family.

The Director of Public Affairs at the university, Lamara Garba, confirmed the development in a telephone interview, describing the loss as painful.

“Yes, it’s true the wife of our former VC and former INEC chairman is dead and will be buried in Abuja. May the Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings,” he said.
