A former adviser to ex-Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle, Sani Shinkafi, has launched a scathing attack on those advocating for a state of emergency in Zamfara, branding them as “enemies of the people” and accusing them of working against the state’s progress.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, Shinkafi dismissed the calls as politically motivated, arguing that Zamfara is experiencing peace, stability, and economic growth under Governor Dauda Lawal. He urged President Bola Tinubu to ignore the demands, claiming they come from “failed politicians” attempting to destabilize the state.
Shinkafi, who also serves as the Executive Director of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, warned that any move to remove the governor, deputy, or state legislators would be illegal and unconstitutional. He accused those pushing for emergency rule of acting as “political hirelings” for unknown sponsors and suggested that security agents should investigate their motives.
His fiery remarks have ignited debate, with critics questioning whether Zamfara is truly stable and whether political interests are being prioritized over security concerns. Meanwhile, his supporters insist that emergency rule is unnecessary and part of a broader scheme to undermine the current administration.
As tensions rise, the controversy underscores the deep political divisions over Zamfara’s security situation and governance.
