Exclusive : Darlington Says Tinubu’s Ambassadors Lack Needed Credentials

Legal practitioner and political analyst, Barrister Darlington, has strongly criticised the latest ambassadorial nominations made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying many of the selected individuals “do not have the credentials required to represent Nigeria on the global stage.”

Speaking during a live interview, Darlington said trust, competence, and constitutional compliance should form the basis of every appointment made by the President.

He argued that the current list of ambassadorial nominees reflects “a worrying decline” in the standard of leadership selection in the country.

According to him, “These nominees do not possess the credentials to adequately represent this nation. Trust should be the foundation of all appointments. I don’t believe the President understands that he is required to consult Section 172 of the Constitution, which emphasises integrity, discipline and accountability for public office holders.”

Darlington added that the ambassadorial list is “another sign that the situation in Nigeria is getting worse,” stressing that the choices do not inspire confidence at a time when Nigeria needs credible global representation.

In a dramatic moment during the interview, Darlington confronted the programme’s presenter, saying the tone and angle of his questions suggested that he “could even recommend MC Oluomo to President Tinubu” for an appointment.

He insisted that Nigeria must move away from political patronage and favour-based appointments if it hopes to regain credibility both locally and internationally.

Darlington concluded by calling on the President to review the list and ensure that only individuals with proven character, professional competence, and international exposure are nominated to represent the country.
