Fake policemen caught with cannabis in Taraba — Troops

Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two impostors posing as police officers while transporting cannabis in Taraba State.

Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Jalingo.

According to him, the suspects were intercepted at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area following credible intelligence.

“The suspects, who were dressed in mobile police uniforms, were found with two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with substances suspected to be cannabis. Preliminary investigations revealed that none of the occupants were serving policemen,” Muhammad said.

He explained that the vehicles had been loaded with cannabis in Akure, Ondo State, and were en route to Adamawa before the interception.

While two of the suspects were arrested, the occupants of the second Hilux fled the scene, abandoning their vehicle on sighting the troops. A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered.

The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their synergy and vigilance. He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to keeping Taraba unsafe for criminals and urged the public to continue providing timely intelligence to support ongoing security operations.
