The family of detained Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has suspended the services of his two legal counsels.

Kanu’s younger brother, Kanunta Kanu who made this known in a tweet today, said Kanu’s counsels, Prof Mike Ozekhome SAN and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor has been sacked.

According to him, the development followed the inability of the lawyers to see their client who is being detained at the Department of State Services, DSS Headquarters Abuja.

Kanunta also accused the lawyers of allegedly stopping medical doctors billed to attend to the secessionist at the DSS custody.

He explained that after Nnadmi Kanu’s case on 11th May 2023, Prof Mike Ozekhome SAN has refused to see his client in DSS headquarters Abuja even after several messages from MNK to see him.

Secondly, for stopping the medical doctors who were to examine MNK on 5th June even when he and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor were duly informed on 2nd June and MNK told them to inform his family to arrange that.

The family appreciated their time and efforts so far and directed them to immediately hand over the legal documents.”

Some days ago, Family of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that it appears the Federal Government wants its son dead.

The family, which spoke through Emmanuel Kanu against the backdrop of recent developments around the IPOB leader’s group, said that it appears their son had been poisoned, which informed why the government through the Department of State Security (DSS) has refused ailing Kanu from seeing his medical doctors to diagnose what’s wrong with him.

“They (DSS) are acting as if Onyendu (Kanu) has been poisoned and they want him to die gradually; this is why they are restricting doctors from attending to him.

But last week, the Head of Directorate of State of IPOB, Mazi Chika Edoziem, had advised Emmanuel and Barrister Alloy Ejimakor to retrace their steps and desist from visiting the DSS office with people they called doctors without the knowledge of Mr Mike Ozekhome, who is the lead counsel to Kanu.

“How come those that were never present when the understanding was reached to have Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s personal doctor involved in deciding the issue of his surgery are the ones who are parading people at the DSS as personal doctors of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The attempt to smuggle in certain persons as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s personal physician without informing the SAN is very suspicious to say the least,” the group’s directorate said.

On his part, Emmanuel narrated what happened when he took Kanu’s personal doctors to the DSS medical facility, saying that they were turned back by an official of the security outfit, who claimed that they were not aware of their coming.
